The social media giant, Facebook depends on the location access to give various features. And it will stop two of its features based on location access in the later of this month. Facebook has mentioned that nearby friends and weather alerts will not be present for the millions of its users after May 31,2022.
It seems like due to the changes in Meta policies have impacted these two features. Nearby Friends as the name says itself, is when enabled allows users to identify the contacts available near to their location.
For this feature the social media giant, was able to fetch your location and implements it to track other people. Furthermore, it’s very simple that without accurate location access of the user, the weather of particular area cannot be shown.
So, Weather Alerts is another feature that Facebook uses to get your location. Also, the Facebook mentions that till August 1,2022 its users can view and download their location history. After that this information will be removed from the Facebook Servers.
But this does not mean that Facebook will stop collecting the location data, after removing the location access for these two features. The social media giant will be collecting the location data for other features, and it does not clearly mention about those features.
Also, from the past year or so Facebook has been going through tough times related to stricter tracking methods because of the Apple. This has also affected the ad revenue of the social networking site. Even Google is looking up for those apps that requires location access without any reason.
