The Indian prime minister, Shri Narendra Modi started the roll out of the 5G services in India on October 1. It was done in the India Mobile World Congress 2022 event. Moreover, big telcos such as Reliance Jio and Airtel have already started the rolling out 5G services in select cities after the announcement.
On the other hand ,telcos like Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL will also soon work on 5G services rollout in the country. In order to use the 5G services on smartphone ,one will require a 5G handset. It’s a known thing that alone hardware cannot be sufficient. Software is also equally important for the proper function of 5G handset.
Even if you have 5G handset you will require software updates from your device manufacturer to use the service. Furthermore, it is up to the smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, Apple, etc.to provide the update in specific timeline.
And that too will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and device to device. It is a standard process as manufacturers require some time to test their devices. This is done to ensure the proper functioning of 5G services in the country.
Standalone 5G and Non-standalone 5G:
Another thing worth mentioning is that different telcos are using different underlying technologies to provide the 5G services. Like there is NSA short for non-standalone technology and SA which stands for Standalone technology.
When you ask the difference between the two, let me tell you that in standalone 5G, services will work independent of 4G network. So, this is the merit of standalone 5G technology over the non-standalone 5G technology.
Also, operator such as Reliance Jio is providing the 5G services on standalone technology. Whereas on the other hand, Airtel and Vi’s 5G is based on non-standalone technology or NSA. Another thing is that, The Department of Telecom and the Ministry of electronics and information technology officials has met telcos and smartphone manufacturers on Wednesday.
All of this is done to deliver smooth experience of 5G networks to the Indians. Also to tackle any challenges that come across the way. As per the information gathered from the Financial Express site, let’s know when manufacturers will provide software update for 5G devices.
When Manufacturers will push the software update for 5G devices in India
Samsung will roll out all the important updates to enable 5G services on their device by mid of November.
On Apple iPhone 12 and above it is estimated by the company that it will take December to rollout updates to activate 5G services.
